Romulo A. Virola is currently the Secretary General of the National Statistical Coordination Board and the Chairman of the Governing Board of the Statistical Research Training Center. In 2007, he was one of the 12th Achievement Awardees of the National Research Council of the Philippines.
He has written and published numerous papers and has presented in international conferences such as the Regional Conference for Asia, the 38th Session of the United Nations Statistical Commission, the OECD 2nd World Forum in Statistics, Knowledge and Policy, the 56th Session of the International Statistical Institute, and the Arab Institute for Training and Research in Statistics Seminar on Democratic Governance Statistics. He also served on the faculty of the graduate programs in Statistics and Mathematics at the University of the Philippines, and was with the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) for more than 20 years.
He completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics from the University of the Philippines, and his PhD in Statistics from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.
